CMU Athletes take on Jock Rock

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich., March 30, 2010 - Central Michigan University's athletes are getting rowdy against each other.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, with the help of PR Central, presents the 16th annual Jock Rock competition April 11 in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a free meet and greet autograph session with the student athletes.

It is time once again for the Chippewas to show just how talented they are off the field and court. CMU's student athletes will trade in their jerseys and cleats for costumes and dancing shoes to compete for the title of Jock Rock Champion.

Starting at 7 p.m., the show will feature the student athletes in a competition against each other, lip-syncing and dancing to classic hits in front of four judges. Come out and support the teams with that famous Chippewa pride as they move and shake it to the beat.

Athletes from wrestling, men's and women's basketball, soccer, men's and women's track and cross country, football, field hockey, volleyball and baseball will go head-to-head earning points towards their team's total. Each team will be awarded points based on lip-syncing, creativity, audience participation and time allotment.

Last year's champion was the women's track-and-field team. They danced to a medley of Will Smith songs, including the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Men in Black and Wild Wild West. They will come back to defend their title this Sunday.

The two highly anticipated performances are between the men's and women's track teams. With just under $2,000 collected last year to be donated to the American Red Cross, the student athletes are hoping for an even bigger turnout this year to raise more money for the organization K.I.D.S. for Haiti.

Do not forget to show up at 6:30 p.m. for a chance to broadcast life with 95.3 CFX and meet your favorite Chippewa student athlete. Tickets will be $4 at the door, $3 with a flier and the proceeds will benefit K.I.D.S. for Haiti.
