Helpful tips on how to dress for the perfect Valentine's Day date for any occasion

How to Dress for the Perfect Valentine's Day Date

Valentine's Day should be perfect.  Full of flowers, candy, and stuffed animals, February 14th is by far the most romantic day of the year.

However, with every perfect Holiday, there are those imperfect tweaks that must be adjusted. The biggest misconception about Valentine's Day fashion is the colors red and pink.

It is not too cliché to sport the famous romantic colors on this day, just because everyone else might.  Valentine's Day is, after all, a national holiday.

If you don't want to dress like everyone else on February 14th, then casually wear red.  Instead of decking yourself out from head to toe in red or pink, simply wear something within those colors.

For instance, a red scarf, pink pumps or a headband could all be traditional yet trendy.  Be careful not to wear too much of a Valentine's Day theme though, as you don't want to look like you just popped right out of a Valentine's Day card.

There seems to always be an element of anxiety when it comes to what to wear for such a special occasion like Valentine's Day.  Your attire does not have to stress you out.

To figure out what you're going to wear, the first thing you need to figure out is where you are going, and when. If you have a date during the day, leave the 4 inch pumps at home.

Keep in mind that there is snow on the ground, and the last thing you want to happen is to fall on the ice or get a pound of snow in your shoe!  So, think casual and comfy.

Suggestions might include leggings with a long top and flat boots.  A cardigan may work as well, to add a touch of class.

For dinner dates that take place in the evening, try something a little more sexy and sophisticated.  Skirts and dresses could be OK, as long as they are at a reasonable length.

Remember that there will be elderly couples at the same places that you and your date choose to dine, so be careful not to show a little too much as you sit down.

Movie wear for a Valentine's date can be tricky.  Although you will be sitting in a dark cinema, where no one will see your outfit, it's important not to rock the sweatpants.

Loose fitted jeans and a sweatshirt is a more reasonable outfit for such a date.  Be careful not to fully dress up for a date at the cinema either.

Chances are, the cuter the outfit, the more uncomfortable it will be.  It's fairly easy to follow a dress code for Valentine's Day when they take place at the bar

When it comes to bar attire, anything really goes.  An idea might include pairing some pumps with skinny jeans or leggings.

Don't have a Valentine's date?  Don't worry, just ask one of your other single friends to go out to a nice restaurant, order take-out or even plop on the couch and watch a sappy chick flick.

There are no fashion rules when hanging with one of your friends.  It is solely up to you. Make sure, though, to incorporate the Valentine's theme in your outfit, to show that you're not bitter about having to spend this romantic holiday with just a friend!

If you don't want to dwell on the fact that you're single, you can even hit up the bar and find a person that feels the same way.  It's without a doubt that there is someone else out there wishing they had a Valentine as well!
