The Blue Gator's Coyote Ugly night takes on the Cabin and CoCo Joe's

Mt. Pleasant's Blue Gator features Coyote Ugly night

Good food, cheap drinks and girls dancing on the bar is what people will be able to find at the Blue Gator on Wednesday nights.

The Blue Gator Sports Pub and Grill located at 106 Court Street in Mount Pleasant will be implementing a new Coyote Ugly theme to draw in customers.

"We are trying to do something fun and different for bar nights," said Rich Swindlehurst co-owner of the Blue Gator.

Swindlehurst said they are hoping to pull some of the crowds from the specials at other bars such as CoCo Joe's and The Cabin.

"We want to focus on entertainment and fun, making it more of a social bar, not club," said Swindlehurst.

The specials and theme starts at 10 p.m. every Wednesday night. The specials include $3 pitchers all night with no cover charge and shows from the Coyote girls dancing on the bar. It is an 18 and up event but 21 and up to drink.

Mount Pleasant resident, Soren Sorensen said he comes to the Blue Gator regularly and thinks the new Coyote Ugly theme could attract more customers.

"It's a good idea, but they shouldn't have to do it because it's already a good bar," Sorensen said.

If people are looking for what they saw in the movie Coyote Ugly, they are going to be disappointed.

There is an announcer, Angie Bockheim a sophomore from Grand Rapids, who gets the crowd going and two dancers, White Lake junior Jessica Hug and South Lyon junior Shaunna Law; both members of the Central Michigan University Dance Team.

On Wednesday, the dancing did not begin until after 11 p.m., the first dance did not go over too well. Although the dancers were laughing and having a good time they forgot what they were suppose to do. It was a too choreographed and the girls had to stop in the middle of the dance because they were struggling with their dance.

Another disappointment came when Bockheim announced there was going to be shots, flash backs of the movie came to mind when they pulled the guy up the bar to pour shots in his mouth, but this is not what happened. They poured and announced the shots then told everyone they were to be purchased for $3.

At about midnight, the coyote girls performed again; this time, a much better success. Both of the girls seemed to have the routine down better and appeared more pumped and more excited about their performance. The crowd was more energetic and danced along with the girls while cheering them on.

Overall, the environment was nice, food was good and the entertainment was fine once the night went on. With a little more practice, Coyote Ugly nights at the Blue Gator could be a big hit in Mount Pleasant.
